as smooth as velvet…

as smooth as velvet...

so over the past couple of days I baked a Red Velvet cake and some brownies. Unfortunately the brownies were eaten too quickly for a photo to be taken but I guess you all know what a brownie is meant to look like. I haven’t really felt like baking over the past couple of weeks, so I’m quite pleased to feel the urge to get back in the kitchen.

I’ve never made a Red Velvet cake before and I really enjoyed it. Making and testing it that is. I used Ed Kimber’s recipe for the cake:

225gms Unsalted Butter, at room temperature, plus extra for greasing
350gms Plain Flour
3 Tablespoons Boiling water
1 Teaspoon Red Gel Food Colouring
40gms Cocoa Powder
250Mls Buttermilk
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
350gms Sugar
3 Eggs, lightly beaten
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Tablespoon White Vinegar

it’s delicious and I urge you all to try it! As neither me nor anyone in my family are overly keen on cream-cheese frosting, I decided to go with regular vanilla buttercream with some white chocolate shavings on the top because why not.
